Joel L. Smith, President
Joel Smith is the President and Founder of U.S. Aerospace Defense Group, where he leads the company’s mission to deliver unparalleled support to space, aerospace, and Department of Defense (DoD) industry partners. With extensive experience in the aerospace and defense sectors, Joel has a proven track record of successfully guiding major programs and initiatives for both public and private entities.
A respected executive, Joel has played an instrumental role in high-profile aerospace and defense programs, including: the Raytheon Aerospace C-12 Tri-Service Contract, C-21, U.S. Customs and Drug Interdiction Program, C-9 and KC-10 Programs, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, COSMIC-2, Lockheed Martin Space Systems’ Satellite Redesign, NASA Space Station Programs, and DoD CARB Programs.
As both a visionary leader and hands-on manager, Joel has chaired numerous Proposal Committees and Engineering Change Boards, contributing to the successful execution of complex projects. With over 23 years of experience in program management, procurement, contract management, negotiations, and auditing, Joel has managed more than $550 million in annual sales. He also served as a liaison to the Department of Defense and key aerospace manufacturers.
Joel holds an MBA from Belhaven University and a Bachelor of Commercial Aviation from Delta State University. A certified Lean Six Sigma Expert and C.A.S.E. auditor, he has advised government agencies, contractors, and manufacturers on improving operational efficiency and compliance. Joel is also a commercial multi-engine pilot and a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Military, having served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Joel is deeply committed to giving back. Together with his wife Amy, of 30 years, and their two children, he has been an active leader in both local and national charitable organizations.
Michael J. Clark, Head of Brokerage
Michael Clark has over 20 years of insurance industry experience almost all of it spent as a senior executive within the aviation and aerospace sector. He has served as the Head of the Aviation and Aerospace Business Unit at QBE where he and his team founded the Aviation Division in 2011, in a 50/50 Joint Venture with QBE’s Aerospace Syndicate at Lloyd’s of London, and quickly turned the business unit into one of the largest and most profitable underwriters in the global aviation insurance marketplace. Prior to QBE, he served for 10 years as a Senior Vice President at Old Republic Aerospace, where he led the Special Risk Division, overseeing a multidisciplinary team and a portfolio of specialty aerospace business in excess of $50,000,000 USD in annual revenue. He is a former U.S. Marine and an aviation enthusiast.
